Speedly is the daily typing test on Wordlio. Every day, a new passage appears โ the same passage for everyone in the world on that day. You type it as accurately and quickly as you can in 60 seconds. Your result: words per minute (WPM) and accuracy percentage.
It takes 60 seconds. It measures something real. And playing every day will, quietly, make you a faster typist.
| WPM Range | Description |
|---|---|
| Under 30 | Beginner โ hunt-and-peck territory |
| 30โ50 | Average โ most casual typists |
| 50โ70 | Good โ comfortable for most professional work |
| 70โ90 | Above average โ strong typist |
| 90โ120 | Fast โ top 10% of general users |
| 120+ | Very fast โ competitive typist territory |
Most people who type on a keyboard daily land in the 50โ70 WPM range. Don't be discouraged if you start lower โ Speedly itself will raise your floor over time.
Playing Speedly every day for 60 seconds is already a meaningful practice session. The key is accuracy over speed. If you rush and make errors, your WPM counts the corrections โ errors hurt your score more than slightly slower typing does.
The improvement loop: type a little slower, make fewer errors, get higher WPM because you're not backspacing. As that becomes comfortable, your natural pace creeps up. Speed builds on accuracy, not the other way around.
If you're hunting and pecking โ looking at the keyboard to find each key โ you have a hard ceiling around 40โ50 WPM. Touch typing (keeping fingers on home row, not looking at keys) removes that ceiling.
You don't need to formally learn touch typing to benefit. Even partially โ keeping your left hand anchored on ASDF and right hand on JKL; โ makes a noticeable difference. Speedly's short daily format is a low-pressure way to practise.
Speedly is playable on mobile but WPM on a phone keyboard is naturally lower than on a physical keyboard. If you're tracking your personal best seriously, use the same device each day so your comparisons are fair.
Your Speedly score is saved as part of your daily stats. Over time, look for your average WPM trending up โ even 2โ3 WPM per month is real progress that compounds. A year of daily Speedly and you'll be 20โ30 WPM faster than when you started, without ever thinking of it as training.
