How to Challenge a Friend on Wordlio

3 min read ยท Updated April 2026

The daily Wordlio game is a solitary puzzle โ€” you and the word, no one else. But Wordlio has a feature that makes it social: you can pick any word and send a friend a unique link to play it.

No account needed. No install. Just a link.

How It Works in 3 Steps

1
Go to the Challenge page
Visit wordlio.fun/challenge.html. You'll see a text input โ€” type any 5-letter word. It must be a real English word from the game's word list.
2
Generate your challenge link
Click "Generate Challenge Link". Your word is encoded into a unique URL โ€” the link doesn't reveal the word, so your friend goes in blind.
3
Send it anywhere
Copy the link or use the Share button to send via WhatsApp, iMessage, Discord, or anywhere else. Your friend clicks it, plays your word, and sees how many tries it took.

What Your Friend Sees

When your friend opens the link, they get a standard Wordlio board โ€” 6 rows, the keyboard, the same colour system. They don't know what word they're guessing until they solve it (or fail). At the end, the word is revealed and they can share their result back to you.

The challenge link never expires and can be shared with multiple people. Everyone who plays gets the same word.

Strategy: Picking the Right Word

This is where the fun is. You can be generous or devious:

Does a Challenge Count Toward the Leaderboard?

No. Challenge games are completely separate from the daily competition. Your friend's result on your challenge doesn't affect either of your country rankings or personal streaks. It's a pure side game with no stakes โ€” just bragging rights.

After the Game

Once your friend solves (or fails) your challenge, they'll see a share result that includes the emoji grid and a link back to wordlio.fun. That's free word of mouth โ€” any of their contacts who see the share might come play too.

Pick your word

What will it be โ€” generous or merciless?
