Your first guess in Wordlio carries no information — you're going in blind. That makes it the most important move. A bad opener can leave you fighting from turn 2. A good one can almost crack the word open before you've broken a sweat.

Here's what the data says about which words give you the best start.

Why Some Words Are Better Than Others

A strong starting word does two things:

It covers high-frequency letters — the ones most likely to appear in 5-letter English words.
It uses no repeated letters — every letter should be unique, so you test 5 different positions at once.

CRANE

SLATE
